I know that there are so many losses that we are all suffering...many much more important losses...well, here goes anyway...
When we purchased our home 4 years ago, we had a gorgeous, more than 180degree view of several mountains to include the Superstition Mountains. Within a year, smack in the middle of our view, they built a community church - that took out the view of the only mountain with annual snowfall. Within a year of that, the church petitioned to run a school within the building. That all failed. A few weeks ago, there was construction on the church site. My dh called the city to find out that a charter school was moving in and didn't have to contact neighbors, etc. because it is a *public school.* Well, day in and day out I wake up to construction noise. I can now see where the foundation is, how it is moving even closer to my home, and that it will be two stories high. This will pretty much take out the most special part of our view, the north end of the Superstitions. I'm SO sad!
For weeks I've been telling myself - Angie, you have way more distressing things going on in your life! Angie, you were fortunate to have the view for the time you had it. Angie, you have no control over this so get over it! Angie, it could be worse, there could be a huge amusement park going up ! Angie...Angie...Angie...
Yesterday, I confided in a friend that I felt so pained by this but was embarrassed to feel so pained. She reassured me and shared that a similar thing happened to her. We decided that it really is a loss to lose such a beautiful vision of God's artistry and then I thought...
The ladies at the Great Outdoors will understand .
Thank you for letting me get this off my chest. Hopefully your consolation and prayers will help me to really let go of the daily sting.
Love,

I get it, Angie!
Around here, folks are tearing down the small modest homes that make up the neighborhoods in the parks areas of Queens, and putting up huge (nearly) windowless mansions, blocking views of the many parklands from their neighbors. A friend of mine just moved her hot tub to the highest point on her property...the only place they can still see the harbor, since her neighbors built two stories up on their house.
Having a school block your view is worse, somehow...

Gosh...it just got worse . Because I've been trying to keep a stiff upper lip about this at home, I haven't been talking about this situation. I needed to take Devin to a meeting at church this morning and I mentioned that I posted my concerns here because I'm trying not to feel daily frustration and loss. Well...she let it slip that she received a pamphlet in the mail about the school. It isn't going to be a grammar charter school like I had thought. She was invited to register at Imagine Preparatory High School I about jumped out of my skin and said, "What? Why didn't you tell me about this?!" She gave a little uncomfortable smile and said that her dad suggested she just throw the pamphlet away - God bless him He's trying to spare me but...
A high school...
Oh, MacBeth. I do feel that somehow THIS is even worse - oh sheesh
I'm not laughing yet...still not laughing...
Love,

Thank you, Sarah and Laura .
Devin asked me if I got any *Poor Dear* replies to this topic ...isn't that just what a sad woman needs sometimes, a hug and a "Poor dear, poor dear..." ...
Love,

Imagine that. I guess they would need a high school so students could imagine what the landscape used to look like. They could teach what wildlife used to live there, imagining what that was like. They could imagine what it would be like to play outside...

Poor dear, poor dear...
MacBeth, you crack me up!
Angie, I would feel the exact same way. The main reason we've been able to stay in our house so long is that we back to trees. If our view was gone, we would be out of here so fast!

Oh you poor dear...
It is so sad to loose those views. We had a view in our old house when we moved in and over the years, the trees grew so tall, they took away our view. But, they were trees.......

Oh Angie, that is awful and your feelings very understandable...
It makes me think back a few years ago when we decided to build a really big deck for BBQing and outdoor enjoyment and we chose to put it on the front of our home as we had beautiful views across the road where there was a private hospital and a nursing home. Both these places had a mini forest of trees out the front, especially the Freemasons nursing home which is what we had the best view of. I can still see that day now - Phil and I were 3 days into the building, standing on the stumps when a whole team of trucks came in a cut down everyone of those trees as they were soon to start building more extentions onto the front of their block....we were dumbfounded, our jaws hit the ground simultaneously. Our beautiful, natural view was gone in a few hours...

Angie, that is terrible. You can come here anytime and share our view. No mountains, just lots of wetlands, trees and sky.

Oh Angie, you live in AZ? And you can see the Superstition mountain? I used to live Apache Junction and could see the mountain from my home too. I'm sorry that you've lost your view. I enjoyed looking out on it as well. I haven't been back to AZ in 9 years but I've heard its really been built up.

Thanks for your empathy, Molly, KC, Amy, Robynn, Anne, Paula, Maria, and Theresa! I'm feeling much better today . Robynn and Anne...poor dears!
Hey, Theresa, I DO live in the humble town of AJ . Been here 4 years and love our life! You would probably recognize AJ itself but you wouldn't recognize 60 and Signal Butte exit (Super Walmart, IMAX, Baby's R Us, on and on.) Plus the 202 comes all the way out to Elsworth...pretty much all of Maricopa County is stuffed to the county line! Then you drive into Pinal County and...well life slows down for sure .
Love,

I understand too, Angie - we've been battling with the electric company for years about how they "trim" the pine trees that line our front yard - they had already ruined three trees in past years and were after the last untouched one.
We finally conceded this year and the all 40 ft. pines were topped below the power lines and will be taken completely out this spring.
Something like a beautiful view from a window can give a sense of peace on a bad day or even remind you of God's presence - to have that taken away is a very really thing, I think.

Angie,
I've seen your view. I've seen where the school is going. I am so sorry. You're handling it much better than I would!

Don't be embarrassed. When we were living in a hotel in Germany (it took a long time for our family to find a house ~ German people don't generally have large families, so they were taken aback by the size of ours), the woods where our kids played were being demolished for a development. We were all crushed. And sometimes when you have more distressing things happening in your life, one small solace is the majestic view from your window. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
We have plenty of houses for sale and lots of views of mountains that have snow until July! Come on up (and over for you, MacBeth!)! We'll help you settle in and set you up with a church and home school group (wouldn't that be nice?).
God bless,
