Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello all!

I am posting because I home school my children and I write/illustrate (when I have time). But I am wondering if anyone out there has figured out how to balance home schooling and a part time business or a writing career sucessfully? I truly love and feel called to both. What is the secret?

Thank you and many blessings!

Nikki

I sure wish someone would tell me...

I write for two websites and I'm currently suffering from serious sleep deprivation. However, the extra income does make a nice difference, and since our home and cars are old and things are breaking down, it's nice to have the chance to build up a reserve fund to help pay for repairs.

When I am working with my children, I try very hard to stay away from the computer unless we are looking something up or using it for school. Sometimes this doesn't work out too well, but I really try to remind myself that school time is school time, period.

I worry a lot about keeping things in balance, but I think I've gone through that with every home/work combination I have tried in the last 22 years...and I think I've tried pretty much everything possible.

Working efficiently is a priority for me; dh is very helpful when I have a deadline, because he is happy to pitch in with dishes, cooking, etc. or to spend Dad time with the children so I can write in a quasi-quiet room.

I know I'm not the only writer here, by a long shot, so I hope others will chime in.

Nikki, I am very glad you brought this up, because I had this very conversation with myself late last night, when I was behind on an article and dd was having trouble falling asleep.
