In our state, "health" is required subject. I don't know if anyone else is stuck with that, LOL, but if you are, what do you do? Do you have specific books, curriculum, websites? Thanks for sharing! This is always a weak spot in our home. We definitely cover health in a natural way -discussing our many health issues as they come up and how to be healthy and avoid bad things, but I feel like I need more to *show* for it for our yearly review.

Amy,
Are you in MD? I am. Things I have used for health other than A Beka or Rod and Staff (not so much the 4th/5th grade book)....
Dinosaurs Beware (library discard)
Safety Can Be Fun by Munro Leaf (My son loves this book.)
Making own health and safety rules book
Cub Scout activities (lots of safety related stuff in the manuals)
Stranger Safety dvd (just today!)
Providence and the Millers
My Food Pyramid
Rookie Read About Safety books from library
Good for Me (Brown Paper School Book)
Blood and Guts (Brown Paper School Book)
All Creature Great and Small Life Science
For older kids, I recommend CPR. My middle dd did that.
HTH!
In Christ,
Deborah

Yes! Thank you Deborah - great suggestions.
I can't believe I didn't think about getting books/DVDs from the library. Crazy, because I get out books for every OTHER subject we teach! I think I'm just being passive agressive because I hate having to teach health in a formal way.

Since this is a topic that we really haven't touched on much on the forums before, I hope more folks jump in with ideas. It would be great to compile some real learning-type resources for health study.
I checked out a couple different "Scope & Sequence" lsitings for health to get an idea of how the topic is generally broken up. In gneral that is a great way to get ideas for what to include.
Injury Prevention & Safety (First Aid)
Nutrition
Growth & Development
Family Health/Life & Relationships
Disease Prevention & Control
Substance Use Prevention
Consumer Health
Mental & Emotional Health
Environmental Health
Fitness (Personal Health Practices)
If anyone has any particular resources (books, videos, websites) for any specific topics please contribute! Deborah, your ideas are a great start!

For little kids I would recommend-
Oh the things that you can do that are Good for you! All about staying healthy.
The CAt in the hat learning library.. by Tish Rabe.
