Ok - I'm in a state of near panic!
I have very sensitive skin, and have tried a number of different products over the years. I finally found one that I thought I liked. DHC Skincare. They're a company based in Japan. I only ordered a few things from them, and found that I liked them very much. So...I thought I'd order a couple of more products. I did. They arrived yesterday, and this morning I was scanning the ingredient listing and found -- placental protein!!!!
Does someone out there know about this? The general source? I'm afraid to even think it. My heart is breaking that I bought from this company and may have indirectly supported something unspeakable.
I called and asked the company their source for placental protein, and all they said was "animal." I said that wasn't specific enough for me and they suggested I email a beauty consultant. I did just now. I'm waiting to hear back.
Is there any possibility that the source is something other than the horrific possibility I'm thinking of??? I can't believe I've done this.

Wow! That was fast! I just got a response from DHC and I'm very relieved! Here's their response:
Dear Jennifer,
Thank you for mailing DHC.
Placental protein is a rich source of nutrients, amino acids, and protein. It helps strengthen, condition, and soften skin. DHC’s placental protein is not from a human source it is derived from a porcine source (pig). Although we use animal ingredients such as placental protein, DHC does not test on animals, whether for ingredient research, development, or actual product testing. DHC also offers botanical placental protein in Botanical Plakoenta—100% placental protein extracted from the rye plant during germination (when the seed begins to sprout). Germination is the point at which the plant’s nutrients, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals are at their peak.
Should you have any further questions please contact us at 1-800-DHC-CARE or beauty@dhccare.com.
I am soooo relieved. I've been spending the morning thinking of how I could make reparation for this.

I love DHC-
but I found that plain old extra virgin olive oil, with a rosemary branch soaking in it, is just as good as their expensive olive oil "Deep Cleansing Oil." (I know- I used to use the DHC stuff, but have been using my own mix for 6 months now!
Now, if I could just find a cheap way to replicate their "Velvet Skin Coat!"
Peace,
Macmom

Oh Macmom, I'm so glad someone else likes them. I had worked myself up into such a state this morning! I too love the Velvet Skin Coat! And, I was thinking the same thing about the Deep Cleansing Oil.

I got a free sample of the velvet skin coat in the mail just last week - never heard of it before - and it was awesome!
