Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our happy, healthy nearly five month old dd is often in bed by 8.30 but sometimes (now) we get a run of late naps (tonight's was 7-9) and then really late nights. Last night I kept her up and she went to bed at 8 but then was up later again.

Worry? Not worry? Anything I can do about it anyway?

I wouldn't worry, Pam. I don't know if you co-sleep, but if you do, I would go to bed with her when she awakens in the evening. This has happened a bit with some of my babies and I always take it as a sign that its time to head to bed myself!    Very, very rarely have they not fallen right back to sleep besides me after nursing a bit...they seem to just need me to fall back to sleep deeply...

late naps ALWAYS push back bedtime.. and usually what it means here.. is that the baby is needing a bit less sleep and I haven't adjusted to that yet. This is when I try and push back the morning nap so that the evening "nap" just becomes bedtime.

But all of my kids have given up naps very early. After going through the pain of it several times.. of seeing that the nap just means less sleep at night.. I'm of the opinion that reducing the naps is the way to go. I'd much rather have a child sleep long as night than nap during the day and then be up late.. I really like my short "breather" of having everyone in bed before I have to get there myself.
