We are reading thru George Washington's World in Ambleside Online. There is a short bio on this young lady that is fascinating. Of course I never heard of her in my public schooling. She was a slave girl in colonial Boston, who learned to read and write, became famous for her poetry, and was given her freedom. I thought this would be a good study for Black History month. I reserved some juvenile lit. titles at the library. Just thought I would share.

Judi, which books did you reserve? I'd love to hear a review after you read them. I have read A Voice of her Own: A Story of Phillis Wheatley, Slave Poet by Kathryn Lasky with the kids. I really enjoyed that and would love to know about some books as well.

For days now I've been trying to remember Hang a Thousand Trees with Ribbons by Ann Rinaldi. Great book.

I just got in Phillis Wheatley Slave and Poet by Doak. It looks okay.

The other one is A Voice of Her Own by Lasky. It looks pretty good but haven't read it yet.
