Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My birthday is coming up and I am scrounging for ideas to answer the inevitable "What do you want?"

Since our breadmaker seems to be on its last legs, I was thinking of asking for bread pans to actually cook in the oven! But I've never done that (except quick breads) and don't know what to ask for. Our breads will be half or more of whole wheat flour if that makes a difference.

So what are the best kinds of pans for this novice bread baker?

well.. I would love to have stainless steel.. but those are horribly pricey... so I've been looking at enamelware ones.. I'm not so fond of pyrex.. heavy, harder to store.. any of those three are very non-reactive as far as leaching into the foods.. I try and avoid non-stick and aluminum

Mine are Norpro pans from the Breadbeckers. I love them.

I second the Pampered Chef stoneware pans.
My bread comes out perfectly. Never burns. Awesome crust.

The pampered chef loaf pans look wonderful, but if you're looking for economy and having multiple loaf pans, you may actually want to consider glass loaf pans. They bake very nicely. An added bonus...you can see how the loaf is baking on all sides. Knowing how heavy my pampered chef pizza stone is, the glass loaf pans would be considerably lighter weight. We have six glass loaf pans and they serve us very well. Just my .02 FWI...which may be .00 ;)

I have 4 very old pyrex glass pans that work very well. They are my Mom's old pans that she used to make bread in for us as kids. They are the perfect size and always brown a nice crust.
