Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've tried searching on this topic and can't find anything...but please feel free to redirect me if a thread on this topic does exist.

Anyway, I noticed in the newcomers thread that there are a lot of us with very young children/babies who are starting to learn more about homeschooling.

I'm interested in Charlotte Mason and Montessori right now. My son is nine months old so obviously he is too young for a lot of activities. But I do want to try to create a home learning environment/routine that will be consistant with our educational goals later on.

Per Montessori theory that I've read thus far, I've made the house very explorable for the babe and use a minimum of restrictive devices (exersaucer, play yard, etc.). I also try to stick to a general pattern for the day but we don't have a hour by hour schedule. We try to get out and about in the outdoors at least once a day for exploration. We also read books together 2-3 times a day.

So my question for the more experienced mamas is what did you do/wish you had done with your very little littles as far as home education goes?

Susan:
This is not specifically what you're asking (about learning environments), but more "general". I thought it was a good thread from awhile ago.

If you had to do it all over again

Susan,
A good book (if you don't already have it) is Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready. It has an learning activity for each week of your child's life from birth to age 5. Fun and a great resource for those days when you need a little help!    I don't use it the way it was intended...I just pick an activity that I think will work for my child's age range and we go for it....It is an excellent reference for wonderful ideas for the littles!
