Has anyone used Zenni Optical? It's an online source for prescription eyeglasses and the prices are VERY attractive. I realize, though, that it is so hard to choose frames without putting them on your face, but if the quality is good, this might be a good place for 2nd pairs at least?
Colin just started wearing glasses, and I would have liked to have purchased 2 pair for him, but we just couldn't afford it. At 7, I know that while he will be careful, things happen! I'm also thinking sunglasses, since they are so very important here in the desert, and the frames he chose didn't have a clip-on available.

Can you afford to get the warrantee for the glasses? I don't remember how much it is, but we always get it for our kids glasses and it's always worth it. They have to have broken frames/lens replaced at least twice a year and by the time the 1 year warrantee ends, they need new rx anyways.
never used anything online though. sorry can't help there.

I only found one negative review online. Everyone else seemed very enthusiastic. Instead of clip ons you might consider photochromic lenses which change from light to dark when you are near a window or walk outside. Mine are like that and I like not having to keep track of anything extra.
Some quick tips just in case you need them:
od is right
os is left
pd is pupillary distance which you want measured especially for children
If your prescription looks like this:
OD -2.50 -0.75 x 180
OS -2.00
For your right eye
-2.50 is the "sphere"
-0.75 is the "cylinder"
180 is the "axis"
In your left eye
-2.00 is the sphere and there is no cylinder or axis meaning there is no astygmatism in that eye.
Sorry that didn't really answer your original question...

I used them. Under $18 for glasses that are great. Shipped in two days. Compare with Libby's from Lenscrafter, same prescription, over $300.

wow.
I'm going to have to at least check them out before buying this year. We get a pretty good deal for what we get, but it sure isn't anything like $18!

I'm bumping this thread because I finally got around to trying them out (www.zennioptical.com) Colin broke his frames on the pair we bought locally, and while we replaced them, -- it pushed me to try this place out.
For under $30 (which is 1/2 the cost of just the inexpensive frames we got locally) we got a nice pair of glasses in less than 2 weeks -- cute frames, anti-reflective coating on the lenses, and a pair of clip-on sunshades that actually fit both of the glasses he owns now.
Now he has 2 pair of glasses and I feel confident in ordering from them again in the future. The only drawback is that he couldn't try on the frames and he wasn't so sure he liked them when they arrived. He's getting used to them, though, and I think they're cute :)
