I know, I should be thrilled I get another day with my kids.....but, it has been so hard lately. They are fighting and mean to each other and at each other ALL day. They are not listening to me and I am just so, so worn down after weeks of this....
Dd is so negative and mean-spirited. She is 5. I am ready to send her to school--just because, to be totally honest, I cannot stand her right now and ds would be so open to listening to me and doing school if she were out of the picture. He is feeling life isn't fair, I am letting her get away with so much, and she is just so rude. This has been so hard.
Anyhow, I feel better having written this and hope you could send up a small little prayer for my household.
Anne

Sending a prayer for your family ;) We have days like that, too! I tend to let my 5yo run free a little bit more (oh, and I also have him run laps in the backyard, too!) when he's ornery.

We've been homebound due to illness for a week now. Our character flaws are showing . More habit formation work to come. Sure can be discouraging. It does help to know that we are not alone, that our suffering is purposeful, that God will give us the grace we need, and that I'm going to ask my dd (who was quite a handful at 5) to make my favorite apricot oatmeal cookies to cheer us all up. This was a long-winded way of saying, my prayers are with you, Anne .
Love,

Prayers for you from me too, Anne.
One small thing that I've done on occasion to help us remember to get along: I light a candle in the morning (a pillar or jar candle that will burn for many hours) and place it in a highly visible place. As long as we are getting along, cooperating and maintaining a positive attitude, the candle stays lit. When behavior starts to deteriorate or siblings bicker and don't share, the candle goes out. (I have left it lit if, when the behavior starts, another sibling steps in with a reminder to cooperate. Sometimes I've been the one to remind when I get a whif of poor behavior or whining brewing.) When the candle is completely used up, we treat the family to something special -- ice cream at a favorite shop with waffle cones and sprinkles, putt-putt golf... The treat and size of the candle can vary. At first, the candle gets blown out fairly quickly. Then it stays lit longer and longer.

I like the candle idea, Janette.

Thank you all for your prayers. I am really ready for the big yellow bus today(and I know I can say that here )

Well, it's really a modification of a candle idea that Elizabeth used when their house was on the market. So I thank her for the idea.

Janette, that's just beautiful. We're going to have to try that!
Angie, it's great to have a baker in the family!!
And Anne, we've been having too many of those days too over here, esp. this last month... we are lifting you up in prayer.
