I asked for prayers a little over 2 years ago when I found out that our baby had a 2 vessel cord (an umbilical cord with 1 artery, 1 vein rather than 2 arteries, 1 vein - I believe). Anyway, our son was born healthy and continues to be a healthy boy today. I attribute a lot to prayer.

Anyway, we just went in for an ultrasound today as we are expecting baby #7. We are half way there at about 20 weeks!!! The ultrasound went well except for the baby has a 2 vessel cord. What are the odds?! (about 1% said the technician).
Please offer some prayers for us. I know this will be a carefully monitored pregnancy with many office visits and non-stress tests, etc. involved (I prefer simple ones without much monitoring, testing, etc., personally, but oh well). The main risks seem to be mostly that the baby won't grow properly or will stop growing at some point before birth. It seems (I hope!) that the mortality rate is only slightly above average for 2 vessel cord babies. Please pray for the health and well being of our baby!!!

Christine, one of my sons had a velamentous (spelling?) cord insertion- there were no big distinct vessels, it was like a fine webbing. He and I were monitored, and I was on bedrest for that and other bleeding complications, but all went well. It was a fascinating education after the birth to study the cord/cords? webbing, placenta, etc.
