Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

and I thought the knowledgable ladies here would know...

A friend of mine home school's one of her kids (he has a disability and does attend school for half the time and home school for the remainder). Are any of the supplies she purchases to use for the purpose the child's education deductible? She has purchased a lot of developmental toys, flash cards, standard school supplies, and a lot more. I just wondered if there was a place to deduct this?

OK..so I have nothing helpful to add but wanted to throw in a thought. I was at a hs-ing conference and when asked if any materials were tax-deductible the speaker basically "no, and you don't want them to be." It would sort of be like giving the gov't a foot in the door and a bigger say-so in what you are allowed to do. Of course, I live in TX...so that would be a bigger deal to me than someone hsing in a state that required more documentation... which, when compared to TX, is most states. ROFL!

Yes, I have heard the same thing.

To get a tax deduction, the IRS would need to "officially define" WHAT and WHO a homeschooler is.

They give rebates in BC Canada but as you said, I think it is a definite 'foot in the door' (The school boards actually were a huge presence at the last conference I attended out there pushing an early $250 if you would sign up on the spot....too tempting sometimes for the underpaid homeschool mother
