Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My eldest dd is experiencing some skin changes with the onset of puberty. We have talked a good deal about proper skin care and she's training herself to be more thorough in washing and caring for her oilier skin.... Unfortunately, she has a couple of very noticable blackheads that have snuck in...right at the side of her nose. I have tried using one of those little tools to remove it, but they are in such an awkward place and it hurts.

Any suggestions to remove them?

God bless,
Kathleen

Neutrogena makes a spot cream that clears up stubborn spots very quickly. My daughter has had good luck with that. I forget exactly what it's called, but it claims to diminish spots visibly within 8 hours, and she says it pretty much does. Stridex pads are easy to use and also pretty good at clearing up blackheads. Aloe vera is also very good for problem skin -- it's very healing, and it moisturizes without being oily or clogging pores.

I don't think I'd try to remove them with a tool -- seems as though that could potentially make the problem worse (scarring, spreading the bacterial gunk).

That preteen age can be so difficult, when they're having all the hormonal changes, but their maturity hasn't caught up enough for them to be consistent with their hygiene on their own. My #1 skin-product-tester is now 14, and we've been at this since she was 10, so we have been through a good many creams, soaps, scrubs, etc. Her skin has not been that bad, but she's a very fair-skinned redhead, so when the pimples appear, they really show.

HTH.

Sally

I myself use proactive.. and have a mask/spot treatment.
ds is 11 but is already showing skin issues. when he has a spot he will use that overnight.

I will have to look into the Neutrogena one. I am sure that is much more affordable for him LOL.

ds has dry skin. for regular cleanser he uses Cepaphil, and oil of olay w/ sunscreen during the day. and a non sunscreen moisturizer at night.

my ds was not good about washing properly morning and night. so now he just a shower both time. he needs one each night anyway and does his main cleaning then. in the morning it is basically a quick rinse and good face washing.

I remember having some acne issues as a kid. it is no fun! hopefully something will work for her.

btw my facial lady (that was a while ago lol) said it was okay to extract (meaning "pop") but not pick...
maybe she or you could squeeze it a tiny bit then clean it out, but then leave it to heal???
