Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

anyone found these cheaper than $140 (Alison's)? Anyone regretted buying them? (found them not worth the cost?)

I've convinced myself that I need them... am now expecting my 4th child who could get use out them, and I imagine they would resell pretty good someday when I no longer need them...

There aren't a lot of details about their set, but Montessori Concepts has one for $83 You have to click on the picture to get the item from my link. But the home page picture is the biggest of their cylinders. It looks like it's regular sized and has 10 of them.

You might not be interested in miniature, but Alison's also has a toddler version of the knobbed cylinders for $48(set of 4 with 5 each) and a mini sensorial kit with red rods, pink tower, brown stair for $110. I don't know if anyone here has them and can recommend them though.

Montessori Outlet has them for 22.50 each, here
They are probably the number one most used Montessori material here. No regrets!

Jumping in late here. No...you won't regret the purchase. They are among our favorites here.

I ordered my set from Kid Advance. They were a good price, but this was before all of the fallout with the MIC mess! Now, I did query Kid Advance a couple of times about their sources, lead paint testing - it was just becoming an issue. Their answers were sufficient to satisfy me at the time. But I gotta tell you that I prefer Allison's or Montessori Outlet's policies in terms of sources, manufacture, paint, etc at this point.

I can tell you that you will find the best prices from Kid Advance or Montessori Concepts. Do be aware that humidity WILL affect the way your cylinders fit! Try them all when they arrive, and if they don't fit well, send them back. My first set from Kid Advance had 3 or 4 that didn't fit and were really hard to put in and remove. They replaced the whole set for me free of charge! Good customer service. We all found that all of the companies had really good customer service, so if you're making a purchase this big, don't be afraid to call if you're not satisfied!

Oh, one more thing. Alison's Montessori still honors their 5% off coupon code if you order from them. Just type in ALISONS in the coupon spot! I just placed a nice size mid-year order and the code saved me about 15 bucks! HTH and happy ordering!

I do want to caution folks that if ordering from MO, make sure call first to see if your items are in stock, because the website will not tell you. Unfortunately I just discovered the bead decanomial I ordered last week is back ordered until March! The rest of my order is on the way, but the beads are the main thing I wanted. Oh, well. I went ahead and ordered the addition snake game to hold me over until the decanomial get here, but I am not too happy about having to spend the extra $$$. I would have gone with another company for this one item, but I want all of my bead materials to match, you know? Plus, their beads are just so nice.
Other than this one issue, however, MO has been great.

For all of you who have the knobbed cylinders...what ages are your children who enjoy doing this activity? My youngest is almost 5 and I'm wondering if she may be on the older end of this and likely to outgrow them too soon to justify the purchase. She's really into the pink series in language materials and we have loads of Montessori math items, but I'm looking for some other things to keep her engaged while I give my 7.5 y.o. the attention she needs.

I'm getting these with my 3yo in mind. I know my 5yo will spend time with them, also, but more out of curiosity than to really satisfy a need. We'll see...

My 2 and 4 yo love them, especially the 2yo. My 6yo tired of them once she could do all 4 at once, which didn't take her long.

I'm not sure the cylinders have benefitted us, but then my youngest is 5 and did them rapidly without much trouble and they haven't got tons of use here. If I don't have any more babies, I'm not sure about whether or not I'll sell them. Mine came from MO and we were very happy with quality and standing by their product. I would really talk to the companies about the return policies so you don't get burned. Some require you to pay shipping for damaged items, others don't and for some of the heavy items, shipping costs are a huge additional cost if you have to return something warped. Some have small print notices on their web indicated that certain sales items are not returnable at all. Just be sure you are clear on the policies before you order. If you order on-line it is easy to miss some of the info so my recommendation is to call and verify everything before placing the order. This is just from personal experience. Mine has not always been as glowing as others. MO, imo, has the best return policy and they do cover costs of returning damaged/defective items. Our biggest disappointment with them has been how long it took to get orders. They have always tried to satisfy me, however, and did explain that some of the issues were related to being swamped with way more growth than they had anticipated, much of which should be resolved by March or April. Sometimes, I think that you will experience the best customer service wherever you place the largest order. This is just my experience or best guess after comparing notes with folks.

well, I took a gamble and ordered from LittleCityKids. They were listed half off, so with shipping it was $84 - still a huge chunk of change, but I think they will resell fine when we no longer need them. They were full size and in perfect condition.
