Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm using MUS with my 1st grader and kindergartener. 1st grader sailed through last year, kindergartener struggling this year . We've been stuck at lesson 9 for a bit now and she is just not getting it.

Anyone have any fun activities to help with tens and units place value while we let MUS "rest" for a bit??

Melissa,
We use a Montessori approach for place value. I don't know if you're open to that ed. philosophy or not, but it has been helpful here for visualizing place value! Unifix and Cuisenaire are also tried and true for help in visualizing place value.

Here are a number of free downloadables that might help with place value. You'll need to scroll down a bit to see the teens and tens board. Further down still are some games that help. JMJ Publishing has some neat free downloadable numeral cards that are also really great for emphasizing place value.

HTH!

Well, how interesting that you are the first one to answer my question!! I googled "Montessori Homeschool" over my Christmas break and your blog popped right up!! I book-marked you so I can check back for more ideas. We dabble in Montessori and I would love to do more of it (I think it would be a great fit for my oldest) but I'm trying to get into it sloooowly. I am one of those people that want to go into new things whole-hog and I just don't have the money, space or knowledge to do that with Mont. schooling. I'm learning every day though!!

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out!!

That's so funny that you googled me, and I happened to be the first to respond to your request!

You're right to go slowly with Montessori - it's a lot to digest all at once! I'll just look forward to seeing you on my blog then when you get a chance.

Good luck with place value in the meantime!
