For those of you couch potatoes like me who are looking for a way to get in shape after the holidays, I came across a website that has the "Walk to Rivendell" challenge. We can walk ourselves healthy following Frodo’s path. They have different distances that represent different parts of his journey. Anyway, I thought it might be a good motivator for LOTR fans like me!!!

LOL! Heather, my labradoodle is named Frodo, so when I saw this post title and your name, I figured it was about walking the dog .

Elizabeth, that's too funny!!! We have two labradoodles (you can see them on the banner of my blog). I'm sure they would love to get some exercise with Frodo too!!!

Funnier for me.........I was visualizing Willa walking HER dog Frodo.

Personally, I think I will be needing to take MY dog, STRIDER for a walk. He is a Golden Retriever.

Anyone else with LOTR named pets?

Gotta check out your site, Heather. I have had such little motivation these days.

We had just seen LOTR when my son rec'd his dog. He named the dog "Sam" because that was Frodo's best friend name and isn't a dog a boy's best friend?

This is too cool! I'm going to pass it on to my mom who is a huge LotR fan. Growing up we had dogs named Gandalf, Sauron and Baggins. When we got our dog this past spring, we named him Sam.   My dd is begging for a girl cat so she can name it Galadriel.

Well, no LOTR animals here, but in our old subdivision, the street behind us was Rivendell. We lived on Dale, which intersected with Elrond. So, a "Walk to Rivendell" wouldn't have been much of a walk in the 'old neighborhood.'

I was feeling left out.   We are more recent LOTR fans, and I must confess, I have only read the Hobbit. We have a Daisy, and she occasionally plays with a Frodo.

That's too funny about a dog named Frodo - I've been thinking this week that that would be a great name for a dog!

True confession: my oldest son who is "officially" named Samuel was really named after Samwise.

I *almost* named my oldest daughter Brandywine. And I wasn't even a LOTR fan, it just happened to be the name of a street I saw once and loved the name.

When LOTR came out and dd read the books, and then saw the movies, I heard Brandywine Bridge and said, "Hey! That was almost your name!"

She is VERY upset that she is "Sarah," and not "Brandywine"

Our Aussie shepherd/ Border collie Frodo should have been called "Bombur" because he has gotten quite overweight.   A walk to Rivendell might be just the thing for him.

Willa, I was just about to chime in....we actually have an overweight St. Bernard/Lab named Bombur! He definitely needs a walk to Rivendell! We've given our boys LOTR gifts for Christmas for the past several years and they're going to LOVE this; especially since they usually dread walks around the neighborhood. Thank you so much for sharing this, Heather.

I just looked at the site and it's even better than I imagined! They mention using a walking stick. A fun project is to design your own. This is a great time of year for whittling! Of course you can also go readymade...we have two carved staffs from Tennessee with faces that resemble Gandalf...perfect for traveling with Frodo. Thanks again for taking us down another Hobbit trail!

I agree that the walking stick idea sounds like fun. I should get my sewing machine humming and make elvish cloaks!!!
