Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am hoping to make some silk marionettes for an Epiphany puppet show.

I am trying to coordinate silk colors for the robes and fabric for the skin tones.

Are three different skin tones traditional? And does any particular skin tone go with a particular wise man?

Thank you!

We just read the Tomie dePaola "Tale of Three Wise Men". The introduction to that book states that the names/identities of the kings have been traditional since the 8th century. Assuming he's right . . .

Melchior: old, white, from Arabia
Gaspar/Caspar: young, olive skinned, from Tharsis
Balthazar: black, from Saba

I'm glad to see this. I thought of the Wise Men like this.

Thanks so much - that helps a lot - here's what I've got:

Melchior - light skin/white hair, green robe, gift of gold

Caspar - brown skin/dark hair, red robe, gift of myrrh

Balthazar - dark skin/black hair, blue robe, gift of gold (update to incense)

Does this all seem to match?

If I were going to make costumes, I'd probably switch the robe colors of Balthhazar and Caspar, but I'm no expert in this field . . .

Sounds like a fantastic project! Donna, you're going to have to post pictures of the finished Magi.   Our pastor just gave a homily that included a funny story about children at a Christmas pageant.

The Magi approach the Christ Child with their gifts.

Melchior: "I bring a gift of gold"
Caspar: "I offer the gift of Myrrh"
Balthazar: "Frank sent this"

Oh children are so precious. It's funny when they frame their words around what they know.
