and now looks like a cross between Tana Hoban and Angela Davis. What do you do to beat the frizz? Are there good finishing products that I'm missing? Or a perfect fabric for the Curly Girl's hat?

Whatever I'm wearing won't help her -- I'm frizzy all over and not as curly. 
It's one of the consolations that I can't get out much. My bad hair day can't be seen. 
I'd love to hear the recommendations...

I just don't wear one...a hood is the most I go for unless I really absolutely have to be out there in the freezing cold with one...
maybe it's a vain thing...but it can get ugly...
I never thought of asking you all for tips...I am all ears!

Rachel May I am ROFLOL........our dear little darling took a piece of fleece in the basket in Joanne's the other day and put it over her head and rubbed it around and well.... when we pulled it straight up off her head neither Tana nor Angela could have held a candle to her. I so wish I'd had the camera. And well, our curly girl has many issues even without the fleece. Thanks for a good laugh ( I used to idolize Angela in high school and now I can so NOT believe it)....

Oh I must have forgotten to give you advice . Sorry I don't know--just don't use fleece.

what about if you used a warm scarf over your head rather than a hat.. you would be able to drape it over and lift it off without dragging over your hair which either a hat or hood would do (my very straight hair does better with a hat than hood.. all the turning my head and the hood doesn't turn too so you get that rubbing going on.

Very funny thread title, Rachel .........and, since I have been able to spend time with both of you and your curly girls (Rachel & Gwen) on our grand summer adventure......I am cracking up at the visualization.

I am only wavy but do use curl stuff in the shower and wrap my head for as long as possible. DD is doing this too. If you are already using a curl product maybe a bit of gel mixed in?
How about wool?
My barn hat is wool and I do not notice much flyaway. For dress when my hair was short I wore more structured hats and years ago when my hair was long I wore berets. With a men's beret I was able to tuck it up and they were wool. Now that my hair is "long for me", not sure what the winter will bring.
BTW, if it helps, my more modern daughters have me wearing my hat lower on my forehead. I do not have the heart to tell them that this was way not cool when this 46yo was younger. But is is more comfortable. 
I think winter is a tough season, unless you live in a very cold place.
My latest fashion question is--where or when is it okay to wear my warm Muck boots? And in which places as it suggessted that I wash them off first

Silk is the fabric that is best for curlies! You need silk lined hats.

I love giving people a laugh, and you all made my day!
For my curlier girl, I can use a great castor oil hair dress after bathing which seems to help her hair not frizz. Also her hood is a smooth polyester. She has fewer issues.
My Botticelli chick is the one who tends to get a bit fuzzy, and her hood is fleece lined. Do you think I could stitch in a silk lining over it? Also with her hair, I've never found a good finishing product. We condition and comb in the bath without rinsing and that's it. Most of the time it looks very good until naptime.

LOL! I have long dark curly hair that looks like a spiral perm that I love to pick up at the sides...the top part, if I don't do it quite right, is the part that is powered by it's own mind. If I don't handle it just right, it gets a bit wild...the independent thinker!
