Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello!

My name is Maggie. I am a young mom and have a 2yog and a 5mob. I have been researching homeschooling since I have been married (4.5 years ago). We are definitely going to homeschool. I love the ideas on CM...I am a bit scared, though, as I am not an incredibly organized person.

I love our faith, and my favorite forum so far has been the "Domestic Church." I love all of the Advent feast day ideas and units that I have been able to easily tailor to my 2.5yog. SHE LOVES IT! We were making a St. Nicholas hand puppet this morning. :)

I am eager to learn more...and I want to know how moms with large families have the energy or wherewithal to do this...and take care of themselves? I read Elizabeth Foss's post...and she said she has 7 children...and is happiest when she gets a morning workout and an afternoon walk.

Where do you find the time? I am serious. I struggle with how to set up my day...and am very curious. I would love 12 children...but I struggle with 2.

Thank you all for organizing this plethora of knowledge about CCM home schooling. I am so excited to learn more!

God Bless,
Maggie in FL

Welcome Maggie! I only have a minute, but I want to tell you to go easy on yourself - having two children under 3 is hard! When they get a little older, or you have a few more (so the olders are available to help) things do get easier. I didn't believe it when *I* had two under 3, but it's true! Some things are harder (laundry, anyone? ) but some things really are easier. I "only" have 5 though (although several of my children feel like 3 or 4 each! )

My oldest isn't old enough yet for me to leave the house without them, but I can do things like shower at least while the oldest holds the 2 month old, or teach something while another child entertains the toddler! I'll admit I don't find my life easy now (far from it!) but easiER than it was when I had only two littles and felt "new" to parenting, schooling, housekeeping and such.

Gotta run, little babe is crying (again ) I hope many of the other moms chime in! Welcome again!

Maggie,

Welcome. I also only have a minute, but I wanted to pass along a few tidbits that were given to me when I was a younger mom.

1. Having 2 littles is harder than having 9 children. I thought this mom was crazy when she told me this, turns out either she was right, or I'm as crazy now as she was then! :) (More than likely both!) Another mom once said "It's not how many children you have, it's how many you have under 5."    I think this has alot of truth in it. I currently have 4 under 5 and while they are very physically demanding, the bigger kids pull alot of weight around here helping out.

2. Just concern yourself with caring for the children you have now and don't dwell another second on how you would handle more. It's pointless. God gives you the grace to love, educate, and nurture the two children you have right now. When you have more children, He will supply the graces for them as well.

I have to totally agree with Lisa, in my case, 10 children of all ages are easier than 2 littles.

I was home alone today with my ds2.5 and dd1.5, and I thought I might lose it. It is much easier when there are other "helpers" around.

Also, you never wake up one morning and have 10 children, it happens gradually, and the adjustments are made along the way.

No matter how many times I hear or read this, I am always encouraged by it. Right now, with 4 aged 5 and under it is very hard. I hardly get any time to myself, but my husband is a big help in taking all the kids at least one evening a week. I don't get a morning workout or an afternoon walk, but I'm not sure if I necessarily need those. We live on an acreage and there is plenty of work to do (besides chasing after 4 little kids) to keep me active. What do you need - what do you want - for yourself and your family - right now?

Repeating what Lisa said, it's pointless to look too far ahead. Focus on the present moment. There are so many great ideas here, but not all of them work well for very little kids. Take what helps you - don't try to do it all; there really isn't time for everything...this is something I have to re-learn every day.
