Each Christmas our kids make simple gifts. My daughter (11) has lots of ideas and plans all year - makes sewn and knitted gifts, bath salts, photo frames, calendars etc. My twin ds (8) are having difficulty this year - can anyone recommend some good websites where they can get some ideas - they do not want me to help - they just need some ideas to get started- the books I have are too complex for them. Are there any kiddie friendly websites out there to help?

We just made rolled beeswax candles with my 7 and almost 5 year old. You can purchase the beeswax sheets from Magic Cabin, Paper Scissors Stone, or Rainbow Resources.
Also what about "Gifts in a Jar"...layered mixes for soup or cookies? Here's a link:

Have you checked out the Family Fun magazine website? They have lots of ideas........and maybe Martha Stewarts' website, too.

My daughter made the heated rice bags to soothe sore muscles or warm a bed. She used a new tube sock, filled it with rice and some scented pouporri (sp?) and then wrote a special message with fabric markers. They just heat them in the microwave.
My kids are also getting into making things with the plastic needlepoint canvas stuff. They could make coasters or a tissue cover box.

We just finished making home-made soaps for co-op teachers. It turned out so neat and was fairly easy. This site has basic information on how to do it. My 3, 5 & 7 year olds each got to choose the color and scent they liked. Then they pressed the buttons on the microwave and stirred themselves . I poured the melted soap into the molds and put them in the freezer. It was a fast and very easy project with the kids. Plus the product is consumable not adding too much clutter!
And, I adapted a copy of Rita Munn's S.O.A.P. to attach to the gifts. This would make a very meaningful gift for the kid's Godmothers and aunts.
I look forward to reading about and trying other great ideas!

Hi all,
An easy idea that I am thinking of having my 4 and 6 year old daughters make is tied fleece pillows. They have a few cousins that they can make these for. All you do is take two square pieces of fleece and lay them on top of each other. (For a regular size small, decorative pillow) Then, you cut the fleece to form "fringe" on all sides of the square, about the width of your finger, and about a 1/2 inch into the fleece square. Tie the top and bottom pieces of fringe together to form little tied knots on three sides of the pillow. Stuff the fourth side with batting and then tie that side shut too. Then, you can cut out an applique of a snowflake or any other theme you may like, (mitten, santa, etc) and fuse it to the fabric with fusible webbing. (or you can sew it on, but iron on with moms help might be easier for kids to do.)
Hope this makes sense. If not, I can send a pic by email of what I have in a book around here. & nbsp;

Oh, I just remembered another cool fleece idea. At our local fabric store, they have a huge box of leftover cuttings from fleece bolts that are shaped like a scarf. They were only around $1 each, so I hope to pick up some the next time I go. Anyway, you can also cut fleece into strips that are the length of scarf you would like and the width. How easy is that? THEN you can either snip both ends to look like fringe as with the pillow I mentioned earlier, and leave it just cut into the little strips at the end or tie it again, or you can somehow curl the fringe by pulling on the strips. (Think of wrapping paper ribbon. Sort of the same effect.)
My aunt made one of these scarves for my son a few years ago and all she did was snip the ends, and then she put two or three cute buttons on! It looked so cute, and I never really noticed how ridiculously easy it was till I examined it a little bit more closely. That would be a great gift idea for a boy to do since it only requires cutting and sewing on a few buttons. You could get navy blue or dark red fleece and buttons that looked masculine for a grandfather or dad. Just a thought!!! (I just purchased a bunch of fleece on sale, so I am in a fleece frame of mind!!!!)

Here's a link to Mia's One Hour Crafts blog ... today's post has a listing of easy crafts/gifts to make for family and friends ... some of these would be quite doable for kids!
