I have been needing a new Bible for a while now. I can't not put it off any longer! Every time I open it pages fly. The problem is I can't seem to make up my mind about which one I want. I thought about the Ignatius Press RSV but I am not sure I can get used to the thou and thy the use when Jesus speaks. I don't know if I want a study bible or not. I know that I rather not have one with inclusive language. So what Bible do you guys use? What edition(s) is(are) your favorite and why?

We have many bibles, but my favorite is:
The Jerusalem Bible.
I learn a lot from the Navarre Bible.
But for just reading, I prefer the former.

My favorite is the Catholic Women's Devotional Bible.

Susan,
What is different in a devotional bible? I noticed this is NRSV, does that mean that it has inclusive language?
Laura- I have to check the Jerusalem Bible. I used to have on in Spanish and I really liked it. Does the Navarre Bible have an Old Testament volume?

The Navarre has an OT and a NT hardback edition.
But the thing I like best about the Navarre is the paperback editions which are published for each book (or group of smaller books) of the Bible.
They are easier to use, and have a little more exposition than the big hardbacks.

I don't know what inclusive language is, but in the preface it says the bible uses inclusive language when referring to human beings. The Catholic Women's Devotional bible has the bible plus devotions and weekend meditations. It has 50 articles on the liturgical year and 52 on the women of the bible.

What do you mean by exposition?
I do have several of those soft cover one and I love them.

Inclusive language doesn't use words like men, man, mankind to refer to the whole human race. The premise is that women feel excluded when the word men is used. So passages like the beginning of the Gospel of John would read "Whatever came to be in him, found life,life for the light of the human race"instead of "life for the light of men.
I tend to like the more traditional use of language.

That the notes and commentary are a little longer and in depth than the one-volume edition. The hardbound single edition notes have been edited to fit the space available.

I have to second the reccomendation for the Catholic Women's Devotional Bible. I have had my copy for years and I love it. I am glad the inclusive language was explained, I had no idea what that meant. Truth be told, I have never even noticed what kind of language is used in that Bible! I think I tend to focus on what is being said rather then how it is being said (this can be a blessing and a curse!). The devotions are inspiring and thought provoking and they tend to put things in perspective for me. HTH!
