Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just posted on the kids' blog about a scam artist we encountered today.

I don't want to be a scrooge, but I think this sort of thing happens a lot this time of year when frazzled holiday shoppers are out and about.

Well that's miserable. Always have to be on your toes...good for you on being insistent! Shows how just a bit of confrontation can send them on their way and how listening to our guardian angel's tug makes all the difference!!!

That's similar to a scam we had to be wary of when I worked concessions. Usually, the scammers would work in twos. One would distract one employee while the other worked the other one. They would ask for change for a ten, and then when you handed them the change they would say that they had really given you a twenty. They would try to confuse you by going back and forth counting out money until they got more and more change out of you.

We were told to put anything over a five on the ledge over the register until we counted out change and put it away as the person walked away. And if we did happen to get confused we were supposed to call a manager immediately instead of trying to fix it ourselves.

That's the first time I've heard of that one. That was bold and quick-thinking on your part. Of course, if you are like us, you rarely carry cash and are very surprised to find any in your wallet. That definitely makes you more aware of what's going on.

Barbara -

I first saw this particular scam in the movie "Paper Moon".

Peace,
Nancy

Wow, I am glad you caught it though! I had both my dh and oldest dd read your blog post so they could be aware too.
