Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay, give me all you got!

I want to make a gingerbread lapbook for Jan Brett's Gingerbread Baby with my son in December, and I'm going to share the pre-made templates once I get them done. I just need LOTS and LOTS of ideas.

Well, I made gingerbread (not cookies) the other day. I used the recipe from Joy of Cooking. Yummy. So I would say, include a recipe, pictures of yourselves making it, and a picture of the finished product (cookies or actual gingerbread).

Have you read The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett? Very cute.

Not exactly only gingerbread related.....but the mention of The Gingerbread Boy story made me think of the different versions of this tale. 3 are found in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Nursery-Tales-Around-World-Sierra/dp/0 395678943 which could be used for comparions, story patterns and discussion (and more I'm sure :) )

Thinking on this a little longer....(I'm not sure the age of your son, so please ignore anything that's not age appropriate. )

history of gingerbread (to include geography----mapping where all ingredients for gingerbread originate/are grown)

learning about ginger (nature study/science)

tasting ginger

This site seems to have some good information and links, though I have not followed them all to see if they are working....

That is what I was thinking as well, since we did a comparison of Gingerbread Boy stories last spring. I wrote a blog post about it which includes the list of picturebook titles we used. There are some very fun versions of the story.

This on-line gingerbread man is tons of fun - gingerbread cookie decorating without the mess.

Information to include in some way in lapbooks might be:

History of ginger
This site includes info regarding medicinal and and culinary uses. This site has a very thorough summary of both uses. The uses would be good lift-the-flap additions.

Information about the spice route:
Map of the route
Timeline of spice trade
Marco Polo

Oldest known recipe for gingerbread is found in Cooking and Dining in Imperial Rome

This site has many interesting bits of information about gingerbread particuallry during the middle ages, Victorian era and colonial times. There are lots of things here that could be included in a lapbook (like making a set of alphabet letters from paper gingerbread).

I really enjoy making fake "gingerbread" figures from brown paper (construction, paper bag) which you decorate with gel pens or paint pens that work nicely on the darker paper. I think it gives a really nice result.

You could do a symmetry section - since that is something I associate with gingerbread men.
