Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope I placed this in the right place. I used to use the Montessori area.
We have been loving, loving, loving our presentations from Moira Farrell's Home Catechesis 3-6. Ds who just turned 10 is so into it. The time for preparation is surely worth the learning I see taking place.
So, I am preparing for the Advent presentations and am looking for an easy way to make figures of Isaiah, Micah, Mary, angel Gabriel, and Elizabeth. I thought of using our Playmobil nativity but I don't think we have enough figures. HELP!! And quick!
Thanks, Anne

Not sure what kind of "easy way" you're looking for, but...

Places like AC Moore and Michael sell clothespin doll kits. If you buy a package of those and some felt, you could make these figures...

Anne - Here are some links you may or may not find helpful for CGS figures. I personally find them a little pricey, and just use the clothespin doll kits that Maryan suggests above. A little felt, some cording for a belt, voila...They are great projects and turn out really nicely I think!

You could certainly use these links to generate some ideas and ask your dh if he could just cut out a few figures from a lightweight wood for your kits. Wouldn't be too overwhelming a project IF you had a willing husband with the right tools.

Anyhoo...the links...

Faith Expressions

Worship Woodworks

Shades of Oak

Godly Play Resources

Hope this helps a little - maybe there's an idea here you hadn't thought of that will help you get your figures together. Enjoy your time of Advent with CGS!

Anne,

I am in the same boat as you are, it sounds like. My 10yo loves these lessons also! Anyway, I've resorted to using some Fontanini figures from our nativity for the Advent presentations. My Mary figure is really named "Judith" I believe, and Elizabeth is really someone else (but whoever it is is pregnant) and I'm using an angel for Gabriel, ect... I found some random people to use for Isaiah and Micah as well. I did post a couple of pictures on my blog (scroll down a ways).

I already had most of these figures, except for the pregnant person, so it wasn't that expensive for me. If you don't have them, the cost will really add up, but it will at least be EASY! Just a trip to your local Hallmark or religious bookstore! I am very much looking forward to Advent this year.

If you are ok about not being 100% CGS and are looking cheap we have made some lovely paper doll type figures using coloring books, old cards, and online printables.

we also have a 2 sided paper doll nativity put out by

LTP it goes from anunciation through candlemass.
its called Build Your Own Bethlehem: A Nativity Scene and Activity Book for Christmastime by

Gertrud Mueller Nelson (one of my favorites!)

I think it cost 15$

It is what we present with while I (slowly!) make figues.

A couple of us moms started a blog together to share pictures and ideas of our CGS & montessori materials. There are some cute ideas for figurines here, I'll be using Sculpey (which is what many atriums are using), but check out the pics of the wooden ones!
