Theresa's post on what do you want for Christmas made me think of a wafflemaker. We once had one but when I burned myself pretty badly on the outside of it...I had a small fit, well let's just say, the video of it could have been called "mommy-goes-crazy"...and I threw it out, I didn't want it in my house!
So...now no wafflemakers (but no burns either  ), but we would like some waffles!
Can anyone recommend a wafflemaker that stays cool on the outside and makes at least 4 waffles at a time???
I did see this thread about wafflemakers. But cool to touch wasn't mentioned. And honestly, I'm not sure how much I trust advertisements anymore. So I thought I'd ask again!

I can't suggest but I'd love to get a 4-square waffle maker (not the belgian ones with the HUGE squares but the 1/4 inch squares) with the plate that flips to allow a flat surface to make pancakes or grilled cheese. These are so hard to find; but it's the kind I grew up with and I'd so LOVE to do waffles again...

Sorry, I can't help, but I couldn't help being reminded of the buffet cafeteria in college. Most of the food was completely cold and inedible (that's why we normally stuck to one of the food courts), but they did have an industrial waffle maker with a big vat of batter next to it so you could make your own waffle any time of day. We would try to eat the real food, but would always end up giving up and fixing a waffle with lots of chocolate chips, powdered sugar, and syrup.
Maybe it's the pregnancy cravings, but my mouth is watering just thinking about one of those waffles.

We have a Toastmaster Belgian waffle maker. The cover stays cool and it makes 4 waffles at a time. We've had it for several years but it looks very similar to this one.

Thanks Patty. That is the one I was thinking about...but just wasn't confident wether it was cool touch or not. I'm putting that one on my Amazon wish list! The price is nice too!

This is what my sister in law asked for for Christmas so I did a little research based on her suggestion.
Cooks Illustrated said, "Our favorite irons were those that produced waffles with good height and dark, even browning." They gave the Villaware Uno Series Classic Waffler 4-square at $89.99 a Best Performance rating. They gave the Black and Decker Grill and Waffle baker a Best Value rating since the waffles were nearly as good as with the Villaware, but the price is better.
They also liked the Cuisinart, and we have the one that makes 6 waffles at once but the dial gets hot (so I just plug in and unplug). I think the waffles are ok, but don't get crisp on the outside so I'm going to fiddle with the settings some.
They mentioned that the Proctor Silex and the Toastmaster Cool Touch made "insipid" waffles.
When I looked up the Black and Decker at Amazon, a mom mentioned in a review that it gets VERY HOT on the outside. She still thought it was a great waffle iron and recommended being careful around it. It's hard to find the perfect thing isn't it?
