Elizabeth started this thread back in August and here it is November and we have...
This terrifying story about Aqua dots.
This equally scary story about Reebok charm bracelets.
Anything else?

Why, yes... wooden rosaries for children!
The full list of recalled toys can be found here.

This whole lead paint thing has really been highlighted and put in the forefront.
I was going to suggest signing up for either blog feeds or email notifications of recalls from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to keep on top of the recalls.
Of course, those wooden rosaries don't seem to make the list.
And there doesn't seem to be much we can do at home to make sure things are safe. There was this previous thread on lead paint, using home testers. Since then,
CPSC Staff Study: Home Lead Test Kits Unreliable
Evaluation of Home Lead Test Kits
CR and the CPSC on lead test kits: Similar results, different conclusions.

The thing that is really starting to get to me is that it isn't just toys although the toys are the only ones making the news.
Consumer Reports says that costume jewelry is one of the worst offenders for containing lead under the surface layer were a test kit won't detect it.
Here is their gallery of recalled jewelry.
When I checked the complete recall list, I found the rakes that we have from Target. My kids use these to help their Dad rake the leaves. Now, do my kids know better than to suck on the end of a rake. Sure! But what if that stuff starts flaking off and ends up on their hands?
I am getting more and more uncomfortable with the whole situation.

I feel almost paralyzed by this...it isn't just the cheap dollar store stuff that's contaminated, but name brands as well. At first it was just painted stuff, but some of the recalls have been for colored plastic, like the BP cuff of the fisher-price Dr. kit.
I don't know what to do with the toys we have, or what to do for Christmas.
I'm scared and angry.

I am with you Noreen!
My daughter's birthday is coming up next week and most of her presents came from Hearthsong. They say on their tags "Made in China exclusively for Hearthsong". Now this is a plush horse and rider doll which are made out of fabric, BUT... there is a vinyl saddle and bridle on the horse. So I looked up whether or not any Magic Cabin things have been recalled for lead paint and so far, their only two recalls are for possible choking hazards. I thought that would make me feel better, but now I can't stop looking at those pretty packages and wondering "what if they just didn't test carefully enough?". Mad and angry indeed!!!!!

Thanks so much for this. The news had passed me by because my dc don't have that many branded plastic toys -- but now I've checked, I've found that the *one* Polly Pockets set they own is on the blacklist, as is the Magnetix set. I'm being cautious in light of my new arrival...
The manufacturers offer a replacement, but tbh I don't know if I really want it...

It's so crazy. I've been looking at doll clothes on ebay for Christmas.....made by women here in the U.S., but then dh pointed out that the FABRIC and notions that they use is probably MIC!!!!

Ok so as far as the wooden rosaries go, what do we do with them? We have 2 of them and my 8 mo old loves hers. I put it away from her (she used to play with it all the time). That really scares me.

Wow, we have that Rosary. Thanks for that! I'll have to put it away now. I really liked that one too.

We have that Rosary, too, and actually dislike it. I've found the olive wood ones hold up just as well (better, actually), are prettier and they are not painted.

Philothea,
Where can you get the olive wood kind? I have never seen any, but would love to replace ours soon.
