Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a ds2 that loves his trains but gets so frustrated because he can't yet manipulate the wooden tracks. I priced train mats and they are priced way out of our price range.

Has anyone made a play mat like this?
I would love to hear from anyone who has made one, or from anyone with ideas about this.

My SIL made one for my nephew by simply hot-gluing felt pieces onto a larger piece of felt that she bought by the yard. I've also seen mats made of painted canvas.

I found a copy of the Wonder-Under Book of Easy Applique at a garage sale that might be of help(maybe your library has it?). The style of most of the projects in this book isn't exactly my taste , but it features a pattern for an adorable "All About Town Play Mat." It's made more for cars, but you could easily adapt it to be more train-oriented. (That's actually what I'm planning on doing for my train-loving godson!)

It uses Wonder-Under (obviously!) to secure the fabric pieces to the heavyweight-fabric backing. The neatest feature: the whole perimeter has a drawstring within it, so when the string is pulled, the mat becomes a little bag for the trucks and can be hung up, out of the way.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like a pretty easy project.

My interloan library has this---but I need to go in to request it. Hopefully, it will be on its way tomorrow.
It sounds like just what I am looking for!
Thanks!
