Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies, thanks to Carmen's suggestion, I got a copy of The Wind Boy as a read-aloud from the library and started pre-reading it last night. I got half-way through the book and was too tired to keep reading ... but got up early this morning and finished it! The kids are going to love this one!

But my question here is does anyone know about this author? She was a minister's daughter but converted to Catholicism in the 1930s. She wrote mysteries for teens and adult books (with a Catholic "flavor"). Any suggestions for further books?

Hi Mary, Isn't this book a treasure? I actually have tried to find some info on Ethel Eliot Cook after reading the little biographical blurb in the book, but I didn't really dig up anything. It seems that most of her work is out of print. It would be interesting to read some of her work from her "Catholic" phase. I know the Chinaberry catalog does feature both The Wind Boy and another fairy tale, The House Above the Trees. I will have to check this one out at as well! -Carmen

Carmen,

I've requested a couple of her "teen mysteries" thru inter-library loan .... one is called "Storey Mansion: A Mystery" and one is "The Vanishing Comrade: A Mystery for Girls". Once I get those, I'll let you know. She wrote these after she converted.

I'll check my library as well. I think I'll try and get The House Above the Trees. It might be a nice family read aloud. -Carmen

I'll have to check Arapahoe, Aurora and Jefferson since Douglas only has The Wind Boy. -Carmen
