Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The baby's arrival is approaching fast. There are a few things I need for him, but wondering where do you get your reviews for items like car seats, strollers, and monitors?

I'm thinking of a video monitor this time. Anyone have experience/comments to share?

Hi Jenn

I used Baby Bargains

The reviews are very good. Our libary system has one - but not the latest version - I borrowed this from a friend when I wanted to check out some stuff for Michael.

What about Consumer Reports? I subscribe to the online version so I can easily search for products I am interested in.

Reading reviews at Amazon is another good way to check things out.

Jenn, I'm just your average Amazon/Target review reader.

I use a combination of Cosumer Reports and Amazon. CR usually focuses on safety issues, but sometimes they might focus on things that aren't important to me (looks/style) Amazon reviews often focus on ease of use, which is a good perspective to have, too.

NHTSA Car Seat Ease of Use Ratings also handy because they list height/weight limits on all the seats!

Jenn a good friend of mine got the video monitor for her latest (although the little one is over 1 now!). She loved it. I don't know which one she had necessarily. I think she liked being able to see the baby when she heard some squawking...was the baby awake, or just a little fuss and then drifting back...that sort of thing. Also, whenever she had us girls over, always fun to watch the sleeping baby so cute! (not that that should be a reason to buy one!)

Marilyn, Thanks for this terrific recommendation. I splurged and bought the book yesterday and couldn't put it down. The book is extremely helpful, with great ideas, reviews and resources. I also see they have a blog and a forum.

I was surprised how positive they were for Arms Reach Co Sleeper, considering how the usual stance is like Consumer Reports -- cosleeping frowned upon.

Jenn,
Just wanted to mention that if you have the time (and stamina ) you might consider checking the kids consignment stores around town. I saw a video monitor for $10 at our local consignment store.

I actually really like reading the Amazon reviews on products that aren't safety related. We use Consumer Reports for things like carseats, etc. I just pay for a one month online subscription and do all of my research during that month.

Good luck - what fun!
