I've seen these talked of on CM loops has anyone actually read used these books for your children or yourself ? there is a cooking & sewing I think knitting book too .
I need a good instruction book for knitting .By good I mean simple . as if I were watching a gramma do it very slowly very visual hands on learner here

I love them too -- actually have them, but I don't know if they're REALLY good for TEACHING knitting or anything else. I think they'd be easier to follow if you had a bit of knowledge in the skill discussed. Also, the projects are "dated" (it's a facsimile reprint so the writing looks old too) so it's kind of a nostalgic thing, y'know?

I don't know if the knitting will be what you want, but you can get the flavor of the books from these two online texts:

The Mary Frances Cook Book

Easy Steps in Housekeeping; Or, Mary Frances' Adventures Among the Doll People

I also found another book by Jane Fryer that isn't a Mary Frances book, but seems quite interesting: Our Home and Personal Duty, Civics for children, stories that illustrate our civic duties.

If you want to learn knitting -- especially if you want to use a soft approach and learn with your kids -- the best book I've ever seen is Kids Knitting by Melanie Falick. It's the one I go back to whenever I'm teaching or want to do projects with my littles.
