Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello Ladies,
I have a question for anyone in Virginia. Have any of you hiked Old Rag Mountain? If so, is this something that younger children can do (ages 4-7)? From what I have read, it is a 3 hour hike. I think my expectations may be too high for the younger ones, but I am looking for some input. Thank you in advance!!!
God bless,

Hi Mo. Fr. VW used to go with the youth group and told us it would be too much for the kids.

I took the kids last year to White Oak Canyon, which is just after Old Rag, I think. It took us 1.5 hours to do the walk. It was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed the waterfalls. Let me know how it goes. It's a great time to go.

I've hiked Old Rag twice: first with adults and then with high school students. The first time I didn't make it to the top, but because I was the "fearless leader" on the second trip, my pride urged me to go to the top!! The top is a lot of scaling rocks.

So yes... IMO 4 - 7 would have a hard time.

Oh you are making me homesick!

I have had many a girl scout (of all ages), and many others on White Oak Canyon. I have also done it both ways and like to start at the bottom. Even if you only make it to the first water fall, you have a good hike and lots to keep kids entertained. I have seen bear there severl times in the fall! Oh, how I miss that hike!

From what I have herad, Old Rag would be too much for the littles.

God bless,
