Dear friends,
I come to you with a heavy heart. My great aunt (who raised my mother and is like a grandmother to me)was diagnosed with uterine cancer a year ago. She has undergone chemotherapy (the mildest she could stand) and is now to the end of the line. Her cancer has metastasized and her chest cavity is now filling with fluid constantly and she has been in and out of the hospital for the last few weeks. She is a devout Catholic, but she lives alone and her only child (a daughter) is bedridden and cannot help her. She has been able to live on her own (in her high rise apt.) until now. She is as sharp as a tack and has all her mental faculties--she is cracking jokes on the phone to me constantly...she's a marvel...
I'm going on too long...I'm just so upset. The most crucial need for prayers regards her caregivers. She lives in Northern Virginia (all my mother's family still lives there--I was born in Alexandria) and is in Inova Fairfax Hospital. With this most recent visit, her nursing care has been horrendous. She is hooked to a tube (to drain the fluid in her chest) and needs help to get to the bathroom. A nurse got her to the bathroom only to leave her there for 3 hours!!! This is a very fragile, terminally ill 86 year old, I'm talking!!
Yesterday, she was taken downstairs for a test procedure at 9 am. They didn't perform the test until 3 pm...she was left in a corner on a gurney and had nothing to eat the whole time--nothing!! She finally melted down and things seem to be getting better, but I am worried about her.
My mother wants to go be with her, but my father's health is not good right now and he doesn't want my mom to leave him (prayers needed here, too).
Please pray...her name is Norma. Thank you.

Jennifer, how is your Aunt Norma doing? I'm praying and am so sorry for your worry. Our family went through a similar situation with my grandmother recently.
Love,

I must have missed this the first time around, Jennifer. I'll be praying for your aunt. I am so sorry for the circumstances she is in right now, and I pray that Our Lady will take special care of her.

Angie,
Thank you for asking about Aunt Norma and for your prayers...you, too, Celeste (and Ruth and Maria)...
The news has improved. My mother was able to book a flight with my Dad's blessing and is now in Virginia with my aunt. She was released from the hospital Monday and though in constant pain and with little energy, she has my mother to care for her--at least for a while. The current prayer need is for her to admit that she needs hospice care. She won't talk about death or dying (and she needs to face this so my Mom can help her with arrangements)...
God bless you all for your prayers...they mean the world to me and our family.
Hugs...

Praying for your aunt and your mom...and for you...that you will all find peace during this difficult time. I am so glad your mother was able to go to her.

Dear friends,
I wanted to ask for more prayers for my Aunt Norma. She has hospice coming in every day. She is on oxygen and morphine. The end is near. The most important prayer request is for her immediate family who live close by (daughter, grandson, niece) to be able to come and spend time with her before she dies. She is really all alone. My mother is here in Texas and I know she wants to be with her right now--but her trip out a few months ago was expensive and the time away from work was costly, also. She will try to get out there very soon but can't right now. I just got off the phone with my Aunt and told her that many were praying with her and holding her close. She whispered that she was sorry she hadn't gotten a birthday card in the mail for my baby who turns one today! She is such a loving person...I just can't stand to think of her all alone with only hospice coming day in, day out, but thanks be to God, she has that help. Thank you so much for your prayers.

Praying for your aunt and for all of you, Jennifer. And praying that her family will be able to visit. I know how important that is to all whenever it is possible.
