Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter is about to receive her First Holy Communion.    There seems to be confusion on what to do when you receive. Do you bow or bless yourself, etc.? Everyone seems to do something different.    Is there somewhere to find out what we are to be doing?

In our diocese, we bow before receiving, but that is new. I would just talk to your priest about it.

Thank you, Marianne! I guess that's what I'm trying to find out. Does it depend on the parish, diocease, etc. Or are we ALL supposed to be following something from the Vatican?

I asked the DRE and she is going to ask our priest. But I wanted to see if anyone here may know?

Hi Jennifer -

Every once in a while I take a look here.

At the left side of your screen you will find a menu that lists different topics - one of these is gestures/postures. I find many of the articles very interesting.

Whatever the form - I think the most important aspect is to show respect and honor Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. A disposition of reverence is what needs to be conveyed to the children. Reverence is really an inner quality that can be shown through our outer appearance and gestures.

What an exciting time for your daughter!

Donna,

Thank you for the link. Very interesting information on there. It seems as though it's what your priest says.

This journey for my daughter to receive the sacraments early has been so amazing. Totally lead by God. I'm enjoying the ride and learning on the way.

God bless!
