Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

is there a good book/reference out there that helps describe the how-to's and benefits ... is this in the Overview book from Christopherus or anywhere else that would help a newbie understand the whole thing?

(ok, we need an emoticon that is out and out, knees to the floor, begging )

Hi Mary,

There's a small section (p. 228-229) in "You Are Your Child's First Teacher" that talks about the "warmth" of beeswax vs. the coldness of clay. She says the clay "robs the body of warmth" which is why the beeswax is used for younger children. Sounds a bit anthroposophic to me & there's alot of that in this book but then again maybe it's true...

Is that what you wanted to know?

Time for a science break: any time we warm a substance in our hands, some of the heat from our bodies is transfered (conductive heat loss) to the object we are warming. Otherwise it wouldn't get warm, would it? It matters not if that object is clay or wax or stone or someone else's hand. To say one material "robs the body of warmth" while another doesn't, not only is anthropomorphosizing (giving human attributes to inanimate objects) it is just plain silly.
Brenda, I am so glad that you caught on to that foolishness.

Mary, it is kind of like the wooden needles over the metal needles of knitting. (That is the theory of benefits.)   As for how to, you just mold and shape much like you would any clay. Does that make sense?
