Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone else used this? In the Before Reading section it is suggested that students make a chart of "all you already know about mythology." It goes on to suggest they chart the relationships between the gods and that the Roman names can be put in a different color or in parenthesis.

My problem is I can't conceive of how to design the chart. Ds can't either. I talked with Margot at Hillside and she suggested a couple of things which were helpful to get me off my one track: I can only "see" a chart that has rows and columns but I can't figure out how to track all the relationships this way. I was also thinking that later more info could be added but there would have to be a way to add things later that you didn't know about when you first set up the chart. She showed me a triangular diagram with arrows going to and from the points to show relationship. Can you point out any others you or your dc have used? Pics on the web would be helpful. Margot is hoping to see the ideas here as well. Thanks!

Last spring Marianna tried to make a family tree for the Greek Gods. It turned into a bramble patch. She had all the gods and goddesses written out on little slips of paper and kept rearranging them on her tree and finally declared it impossible, and said the Jesse Tree was much clearer!
I love connections like that, they lead to great discussions.

Found a cool site this morning, you can view a detailed poster of the family tree of 100 Greek gods and goddesses - Greek Mythology Family Tree.
