Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our piano teacher has a Halloween-themed, kids-only recital at the end of October and asked me to help the kids get some Halloween music ready since she had forgotten to assign any this week.

At her suggestion we looked at pieces that the kids were already familiar with and changed them to a minor key. I suggested secular Christmas songs, so Up on the Housetop written in C Major changed to Ghouls in the Attic in C minor. Even with my second grade musical education, it was fairly easy. The kids wrote new lyrics and enthusiastically practiced their music for hours! At the end Thomas told me, "You should make a sign that says, 'Have fun with your kids. It's a great way to learn!'"

So if you enjoy Halloween, you might enjoy trying this too. I'm thinking of inviting over some neighbors with kids too little to trick-or-treat for dress up and Fall Treats and Halloween music just so we get to have more fun with it!

I can see this is a very popular idea , however I will add that I downloaded Finale Notepad for free today and have had a great time making our new compositions look professional. It's easy to use, just point and click where you want your notes and what kind, and the result is REAL MUSIC. It even plays it for you.
