Maybe the reason God hasn't blessed me with more children is because He feels I can't handle the 2 I have, especially my 3 soon-to-be 4yo. I feel like all day are constant battles. He's stong-willed, and by the end of the day, I find have no more patience. Please pray for me. I feel like I'm at my wits end.
Also, for those of you blessed w/large families or even if you're not and you have wisdom, please pass it on...
Peace (oh I need that right now!) of Christ,
Emily

Emily,
I have been there with a couple of strong willed kids. It is exhausting. Take a deep breath, read some reassuring books and start over again tomorrow.
God bless!

Praying, Emily.
I've only got three children myself, but one of them is definitely the strong willed type. This doesn't always work, but I found myself having fewer battles when I gave her a choice (even if that was an illusion). For example, instead of saying "Put your shoes on so we can go outside," I'd say, "Which do you want to wear, your sandals or your tennis shoes?" This doesn't work every time or solve every thing, but it seemed like letting her think she was participating in the decision making process cut down on the number of battles.

Oh, Emily, I'm so sorry! I have two strong-willed children. When the older of the two was young, I learned to pick my battles. It really taught me to think through things to decide what was really important and why. It helped if I explained to him from the start why it was important that he obey/follow that particular instruction. And yes, the reason was sometimes, "Because Mommy thinks x is best." But if I could offer him -- up front -- an explanation that he would understand, it often saved us from a battle of wills.
Praying for you and the relationships with your children. It is great that you are working on this now and not years from now when old patterns are harder to break. And I don't believe for a minute that this is why God hasn't blessed you with more children. His timing is perfect. Trust in Him and ask the Holy Spirit (and I am too) for the wisdom to respond to your child in the way that is best for both of you.

I had 3 very easy going children and then two very strong willed girls. They have a hard time with changing from one activity to another. I find it helpful to SLOWLY get children ready for different activities.
I might say, "We are going in 20 minutes and I'll help you find the things you need to bring with you. What do you want to bring in the car?" They might give a little fuss and I'll tell them,"You still can play for 10 more minutes." Or I'll explain to them in the car. We are going to so and so's house to play for an hour, I'll let you know when it's time to leave and we'll have a count down...
Hope this idea helps.
Praying for you here and blessings to you and your family.

I'll be praying for you. My now 5 y.o. daughter can be rather strong willed. The good news is that she's easier to work with now than a couple of years ago. Maybe time will help in your case too. I'll keep you both in my prayers.

I have a strong- willed son as well. I agree with the other suggestions about giving choices and advanced notice of things. The challenge for me is being consistent with it. Praying for you as well.
