After you (or your child) have read the history story of the day, do you always do a narration?
We use SOTW and always do map work and sometimes a craft, but I often wonder about narrations. We rarely do them, because it tends to seem like overkill... but then we don't have a whole lot of history 'work' to show for it.
I did try Artner's Readers Guide to American History too... but the book is filled with recommendations for books that I can't get from the library!
When I remember, we do fill out the century book, but I do most of THAT right now as DS has a pencil aversion when it comes to writing!
History is a much loved subject in our house, but mostly because DS loves the figures and people we read about, and the mapwork!
What do others do with history to 'document' it?

My second grader loves, loves, loves history, but not writing stuff out. Mostly, we 'document' our writing by her drawing pictures of what we're learning then, as she tells me about it, I'll label the picture. Or sometimes, I'll just say, "Can you write the name down so I'll remember what or who it is?" A casual request can get her writing at LEAST a name. We do arts & crafts stuff then I take pictures to paste in our "yearbook" (a regular old photo album of our homeschooling activities). Sometimes, she just cuts out pictures (thanks to Google's image search) to arrange into a collage or mini-poster and labels those. Or not.

Narration happens about once every two weeks. She'll stand at my elbow and dictate to me while I type it. She finds it interesting to see her words magically appear on the computer screen, and sometimes, she'll reread what I write and correct something or better state it.

I also keep lists of what we're reading, watching, etc. in my teacher planner.
