Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for some nice nightgowns, a robe, and slippers for the hospital when have this baby. It's going to be a c/s, and in December.

I want cotton, not nessararily nursing gowns, knee to mid calf. Something short sleeves, maybe a little button down. Although the birth will be December, I know I'll be roasting and so don't need the flannel long sleeve to the floor. My incision will be long and high, so I know I won't be able to do pjs at first.

For a robe I want mid calf, soft cotton knit, nothing heavy or bulky. It seems like it would be a stretch of the imagination to want button or zip down? I guess tie would do. I saw one in Lands End that might work.

And slippers. Vermont Country Store had some all cotton undyed adjustable scuffs. For my last c/s, I couldn't fit into my slippers, I was swelling so much. Of course Vermont is out now...so looking hard again.

So, what do you bring to wear? Where do you buy yours (especially since I'm wanting something for the opposite season)?

I always like a new robe - definitely light weight, because I have terrible hot flashes after having babies-- and I always get a new pair of slip on sippers (after c/s I can't reach down and put them on anything else.

I might be the only one, but I prefer the awful hospital gowns after I have a baby. I have ruined a few new pretty nighties so I stopped buying them. ( I also have been in hospital so many times for other things, maybe I am just used to the hospital gowns--that is a terrible thought.)

Gee, I have never worn anything but the hospital-issue gowns. Now, I worry if I have been missing out all these times!

I wore the hospital issue gown last time for a few days, for the reasons you cited Joann. But I don't like how I was all exposed when trying to nurse. Maybe I should just get a bedjacket and work around that way.

It sounds like for a robe you want a housecoat which I've often seen in department stores like JC Penny or even Nordstrom Rack. They snap or zip and are lightweight, but I don't know about stretch cotton. I feel you on being exposed in a hospital gown. It's always a compromise isn't it?

I'm going for some of those fleece flip flops this time. Warm and open. I hope they work out.

This is what I've done every time. I have a bedjacket that came with a set of Victoria Secret pj's years and years ago. The pj's have long been pitched but the jacket is still around and I keep it packed away with my maternity clothes. Hospital wear is all I use it for!
