Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How do you do the loveliness fairs? Are they the same as the "carnivals"? (not that I ever understood the carnivals either...) How do you host it, and/or how do you take part in it?

I so want to "get" this, but I don't yet...

Here are a couple of past loveliness fairs:

Loveliness of Marian Devotion
Loveliness of Gardens

I've never hosted a Fair or carnival (though I just volunteered for one!) but, basically, people write a post on their blogs or find one they've already written, send you the link, and you write a sort of compilation post advertising the various posts.

Any other tips, I'd be glad to hear them for myself as well!

Susan

I've hosted one Fair, The Loveliness of Taking Meals Outdoors and had a great time with it! When I signed on for it, I had no idea I would be visiting my family in CA who got a crash course in my blogging lifestyle, 4 Real!

Things I did that helped:
*Made a fake blog to play and store things in as my host won't let me "see" my post until I publish
*Organize, organize, organize!
*Then assigned my sisters and dd parts as I became frustrated, formating their chosen little letters and butterflies was not my forte

Things I did that didn't help:
*Agonize and worry

It was a lot of fun, but also quite a bit of work as I'd never done anything like it before. I say give it a shot if you're interested! At the least, write the dates on your calendaer and try for a submission and submit it early - boy, do I have sympathy for some of those poor ladies I've sent things to at the last minute! Early is much better.

I was confused when I first ran into the blog carnival thing, too. It's just an opportunity for bloggers to write on a predetermined topic, which may be broad like "Family Life" or specific like the Loveliness of Gardens. Pretty much whatever your thoughts are on the subject are fine. Anyone who wants to participate then submits their post to the host (I rhyme all the time!), who will list them in one blog post of their own on a specific day. Did that help? "Blog Carnival" is the generic term, "Loveliness Fairs" is the name used around here.

When you see a Carnival/Loveliness Fair topic that you'd like to write about - just write a post to your blog. Then send a direct link (not just to your blog in general) to the host. Include your name or alias and title of your blog. It's nice if you advertise a carnival/fair you participate in on your own blog.

To host one, you've got to be pretty quick when Elizabeth announces the upcoming season's loveliness fair. Leave her a comment on her announcement post about which one you'd like to host and she'll put your name on the list.

I didn't find it too difficult to be the host. I set a deadline 2 days earlier than I needed it to be. As each entry hit my inbox, I read the entry, then inserted the link, a short description and the person's name into a draft post. If you don't have the ability to create a draft in your blog, use Notepad or Wordpad but not MS Word (it'll do weird things to your formatting.) By adding in links as they arrived instead of waiting until the end, it went much easier for me and I was able to get last minute submissions very easily.

Most people try to create a nicely written post to introduce each link, but at the very minimum, you could really just list the person's name, blog title and link.
