Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son is working on a special dinosaur book and so I wanted to find some special thing my 5 year old daughter could work on. I found a modesty lapbook at homeschoolestore.

Modesty lapbook

Is this too much for a 5 year old? I don't want to start any discussions that might spoil some of her innocence, kwim? It is either the modesty lapbook or her own animal book.

Okay, I'm looking at the list of discussion questions on another site and I think it is too much for her right now.

Could you tweak it a bit to make it more 5 y/o friendly?
It seems like parts of it would be appropriate?

Honestly, this seems like a strange thing to lapbook. It seems like these conversations would be far better with an older girl over a cuppa something warm. I think it's forced to take this out of the context of real life. I also think that those discussion questions are beyond the innocence of a five-year-old. The extent of modesty discussions with my five-year-old right now is "Katie, please remember to wear undies and not to flip your dress up at church." And "Katie, please sit like a lady." and "Katie, that shirt is so short your belly button shows. Let's put it away for Karoline."

I would tend to agree with Elizabeth. At this stage, you are teaching by example and word.

If you're gung ho on teaching modesty, I'd buy and make paperdolls. The Illuminated Ink Mary Paperdolls come to mind as a perfect tool. There are also historical costume paperdolls, from Dover and such. There are loads out there, and then there can be discussions on what is modest clothing. "We'll throw away this bikini outfit, because showing the belly in public is immodest."

"Look how people dressed during different times...."

Perhaps a lapbook of dolls, dresses or clothing can evolve, with just verbal discussions of what is appropriate wear and not.

Nope, not gung ho on teaching modesty, just looking for something for her to work on while big brother writes his book.

Thanks for confirming my thought. We'll be going with the animals.
