Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Would you all consider keeping my mother in your prayers? She has Alzheimer's. Both she and I seem to be the only ones in the family that does not want to believe it. I'm very close to mom. My dad has been having a difficult time with it all. She will not take her medication on a regular basis. Their relationship is becoming very strained. They both are frustrated. I think I'm just in denial and honestly I don't want it to be true.

I thank God for everything, even this.

Thank you all for any prayers you can offer.

My family has lost several beloved relatives to this dreadful disease. I'm very sorry to hear that your mom is afflicted. I will definitely pray.

When my Mom did not want her meds, my Dad put it in her nightly glass of dinner wine.
A the beginning of her Altz. she became very paranoid, so she was convinced that she was being poisoned.

Prayers for all of you.
I can appreciate your denial/disbelief. It will surely make you feel better if there is a way to rule out other causes of her dementia. We checked out neurological causes with an MRI and I even hoped for a B-vitamin deficiency for awhile. Since my Mom was on no other meds it was not that.

Linda, I'm so sorry. I will keep your mom and your family in prayer.

I care for someone with Alzheimer's, and understand how difficult this can be. I don't know if her difficulty in taking her meds is because she forgets occasionally, or refuses it, but if it's the former, I would recommend your dad being the one to dispense it, as a regular part of his routine with her. She'll adapt, that way.

Praying for you....

Thank you so much for praying for her and all of us. Tensions have increased between my mom and dad. He tries to give her medicine twice a day. She is agitated with him so she will refuse to take it. He doesn't know what to do. I don't know what to tell him.

My children and I are leaving in the morning to be with her for her birthday. We live about 8 hours away. One of the last times we were with her, it was if her inner monolgue was on. She said things most people think but don't say out loud. One of my kids really took a hit for it. All my kids understand she may say things she doesn't mean so they are always prepared for that.

For any of you who have had famiy go through this, what was the time line? It's been a couple of years since everyone really noticed a difference. This year, according to my dad and siblings who live in the same town, say she is declining.

I ask her if I could go to the doctors with her. She is refusing to go to the doctors. She asked me if I wanted to do any favors for her, just to drop everything. She doesn't want to take her medication. My dad said she was supposed to increase her meds. I plan on talking to her when I see her about this. She just doesn't want to go there.
