While I've been mostly off my feet for the past few weeks I've been following everyone's progress via blogs, but I thought it would be nice to revive the "presentations of the week" thread. I haven't made any presentations in a while, of course, but as everyone gets over this nasty virus, I am thinking of starting to ease gradually and gently into a very low-key routine again. (Have I emphasized "gradually", "gently", and "low-key" enough? ) The little ones are more than ready to get back to work, I think, as the new baby, nearly 4 weeks with grandmas, me being out of commision, and then being sick has really set them off kilter... and I think they're bored.
One of the things I want to set up in the next week or so is a "kitchen prep" shelf for my 4 yo. I think I will take some time to show him how to cut a banana, then cheese, and we will work on pouring. He has requested all these activities. I'd like to store the materials for these works (minus the food, of course) on a low (locked) shelf in my china cabinet which is accessible to him. (He can work the locks, but the twins can't.)
What are your kids working on this week?

Angela, I'm so glad you bumped this up again!
Let's see, we're really enjoying all of our Botany Puzzles and North American Leaf Cabinet right now. I've presented the various Parts of...Puzzles so far including: Tree/Plant, Leaf, and Flower, tomorrow we'll do Parts of a Seed. They really like the Botany Cabinet and are having fun tracing and naming the different Leaf Shapes and matching up Three-Part Leaf Cards.
The 5yo is fast and furiously working through all of his Pink Reading Series Sound Bins, and so much more, he's my main "Monty" boy right now He's just eating it all up, I've found paradise for him
My littlest has a new pair of scissors that he's enjoying learning how to *snip* paper into a bowl. He also really likes to make pictures with the Alex Do-A-Dot markers WITH heavy supervision from his big sister
We're working through the Geometry cabinet and trying to get a good flow with math lessons interspersing our Saxon books with all the manipulatives, it seems to be favorable for now! I also introduced the Binomial Equation to my dd (11) and she LOVES it! I'm thinking Algebra is right around the corner for her
My ds (almost 9) is really into the different Continent Puzzles as it's a nice challenge for him to try and put them together w/o the Control
So much going on, it's hard to keep track, but this is a sampling anyhoo!!
Blessings!

Well, today my preschoolers did sandpaper letters with picture cards (putting the picture cards on the right letter) and a sequencing activity made out of scrapbooking stickers (see Katherine's blog).
My 7 yo is using some new blue language materials from Montessori Print Shop.
My 8 and 10 yos did some insect anatomy 3-part cards today to go along with our Apologia zoology text.
My 2yo pours water every day. It's so cute!

We haven't done too many new things. The focus for me right now is addition for Joyce, and keeping Matthew away from the beads If you're interested, I just posted our progress at Fun with Addition.
Hey Marianne, Matthew is pouring water every day too :) All that's left for me to do is teach him how to clean up !

We've gotten a bit sidetracked with our Potter vs Potter studies, but a bit of Montessori is still going on here. Right now the knobless cylinders are very popular, the bells (matching), numbers and counters, beginning sound object matching, and for practical life dd washed and hung to dry her picnic basket linens (tiny checkered tablecloth and napkins). She really enjoyed that so I am sure it will be on her "to do" list often! She also is loving her botany and zoology puzzles and has done some color mixing and matching activities. Today she worked up to 3 knobbed cylinder blocks at a time and had no trouble with that challenge. Perhaps tomorrow she will do all four at once.

I presented the blue constructive triangles (the 12 right scalene triangles) to dd 7. After she made the 12-pointed star and the 6-pointed star, she made a hexagon, experimented with other shapes, and then pulled out the polygon chart and tried to make the other polygons. This child, who before couldn't retain the names of the regular polygons for 60 seconds (because she wasn't interested), was saying, Now I want to make a nonagon--etc.
Not the only thing we've presented this week, but it was cool to watch her create her own extension to better absorb previously-presented materials.
Keeping the littlest ones out of the beads is a daily challenge here, too, Lorraine!

Meredith,
I am thrilled with the Montessori Printshop materials. The science photos are wonderful, and there is much more to the blue and green language sets than you can get at Alison's.
