Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

reading list. We've recently joined a co op b/c they offer IEW. They're using the Middle Ages writing book and doing a few other middle ages things. So, while I wasn't planning it for this year, now we'd like to dive on in the the Middle Ages. We are in desperate search for a ***CATHOLIC*** spine and reading list. I want to read our way through the middle ages but I also want a spine to keep it a coherent whole. Any ideas???

Oh, my scholar is third grade.

"Founders of Freedom" by the Newmann Press is written for 4th grade. It covers Creation through the Middle Ages. I bought mine from Kolbe.org. Lots of saints books available for the Middle Ages as well. Mary Windeatt Fabyan books on saints would fit the elementary grades.

Good luck.

I always find the list at Reading Your Way Through History to be a great source of solid Catholic reading to supplement a history spine. Unfortunately, it's not divided by reading level, so you have to figure out what's appropriate for younger readers. They do, however, include many readings from William Bennett's Book of Virtues, which are good for reading aloud to younger students.

There is also an accompanying blog. If you click on the Century tab at the top, you may find navigating through the Middle Ages a little easier. The blog has some reviews, links to visit, and suggested readings by age level for many of the centuries.
