I have a quick question about getting out splinters. My dd (3) grabbed a post on our deck and got two fingers full of splinters
I got most of the larger ones out with a pin/tweezers, but cannot get all the small ones (mostly due to a screaming, kicking, pained child who has had enough of being poked on). Does anyone know a good way to get the rest of the splinters out?
Time to sand/treat the deck I guess
Thanks!
Christine

Ice it down and poke some more or try soaking in warm soapy water. Sometimes that will draw them out. I am also big on the wait and see approach Annie

for little ones.. I'd put the child in the bath with some toys and let them get good and soaked.. and see if they don't just come out on their own.

Yes really! This WORKS! It's an enzyme thing. Try it - you will not be disappointed.

My dd had several deeply embedded splinters. We tried and tried to get them out. I was in tears as much as she was! Finally I called my RN friend. She said soak it, coat it with antibiotic ointment, put a bandaid o it and leave it alone. They eventually came out on their own. Now, if I can't get it easily with tweezers or a little bit of poking with a needle, I use this method and it's worked so far. The banana peel thing sounds um... appealing. I'll have to try that next time!

I'm practicing patience and still waiting it out
I did try the tape and then the letting glue dry on it suggestions, but neither did the trick. Dd is getting sick of me trying things and just wants to be left alone. If it's not bothering her, I'm going to continue to just wait it out. She (we) need a break from it anyway.
Ds, 7, thought the banana peel thing sounded interesting so he is trying it today on his splinter (which I didn't even know existed ).
Thanks for all the ideas.
I'll keep you all posted,
Christine

OK, I tried the banana peel thing . I did it during the day and dd lost patience with it. I do think it helped some, as I only see about 5 more splinters. I think I'll try it overnight soon as it seems to be the best remedy so far. Again, I'll keep you all posted for the sake of others who might search this in a time of need.
God bless,
Christine
