Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you do with Famous Men of Greece?

I own this but haven't started it yet.
Seems it could last a semester if I did two Men per week.

Other than reading and maybe doing a written narration once or twice a month . . . what exactly do you do when you use this?
Thank you, Ladies

We're just starting it. I also bought History Pockets for Ancient Greece and we're doing the two books together. My dd is very hands-on and likes to make accordion books and other lapbook-related items, so this seemed to be the best way to reinforce the material in Famous Men.

We'll also watch some DVDs on ancient Greece and read library books (dozens exist) so she can get an idea of how Greece looked at the time.

We had the Greenleaf Guide, so we talked about some of the discussion questions and also had a list of supplementary readings.   The Mater Amabilis ancient history booklist has some suggestions for further reading. (here too

Also, you can do mapwork and keep a timeline or century book.

There are some ancient Greece activities but they might be a bit young for your 7th grader.... I also used some of the Dover coloring books but this was for younger kids.

some maps here

Basic timeline here

More links here

I hope this isn't throwing too much at you.   We usually focused on reading, and discussion or narration, choosing a few topics (like Athens compared to Sparta) to focus on a bit more closely by doing some additional researching.

When we read it one son was fascinated with Alexander the Great, had I the resources at hand we would have rabbit trailed there, alas I didn't Do you know I couldn't find a colouring in image on google of Alexander We did get out the maps and trace his routes.

You know if you do nothing but read it the dc will remember, it is a very good book.

Erin, I have had issues trying to find such things before... so I end up making my own (a good tracing from a photograph in a book works if nothing else) or letting DS make a notebook page of the character

Memoria Press just came out with a study guide for their Famous Men of Greece. Just a thought.
