Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The kids and I worked on getting our bird feeding equipment cleaned out this morning. I flipped open our container of seed to find this:

Can someone help me get these pictures to show up??? They are on Shutterfly.

Once the pictures show up...any ideas what these little guys are? They are teeny - maybe an eighth of an inch.

In any event, we left our seed unattended for far too long.    I won't be feeding our birds that seed! YUCK!

Ok, the bugs look like weevils of some sort. See the long, curved proboscis? And the bright orange thing looks like a slime mold. VERY cool!

Cool! was not what I said yesterday when I opened the container. I'll have to research slime mold and weevils and make a nature notebook page. Who knew nature could be found hidden in my garage!

Thanks for your help, Theresa!

You know what is really funny...as I was crouching down with my nose practically inside the rubbermaid container of seed looking at the wierd bugs, my son said,

"Mom, you need to take a picture of those and post it on 4Real and see if you can find out what they are!"

That's my boy!

It's funny the new perspective you can get about nature when you face it with curiosity rather than disgust! My youngest asked me today if she could keep worms as pets. Having years of nature classes under my belt, I didn't even blink when I said, "Yeah, sure."
Through nature programs, I have met wonderful park rangers and naturalists who have been incredibly helpful in sorting out the weird and wild life outside my door (and occasionally in my house).
I agree that your critters are possibly some sort of weevil. Hard to tell from the picture. Here are some weevil mug shots from my favorite Animal Diversity Web, maybe you can find it there. ADW: Curculionoidea: Pictures
Peace and Laughter,
