Help!!!! Our Little Flowers/Blue Knights group is starting up again on Monday. I'm scheduled to teach on Monday, but our groups's books have not arrived. No one here has a copy of the Blue Knights Book 2 and I am at a loss. Last year we worked with things like the "Fear of the Spear of God". This year the first topic is Jesus, the Son of God. Sounds easy, but I'm clueless on how to proceed. Most of the boys will be between 5-9 (my oldest is the 9 year old and he is more developmentally 6).
Thanks to all in advance.

I wish I could help you, KC. I don't have any experience with the Blue Knights. I'm bumping up your plea hoping someone is able to help you.

Oh KC I don't know anything either.
But I met the lady who makes the books this summer. Her name is Joan Stromberg. I don't know if you order your books through her website, but they have a yahoo group: Ecce Homo Press Yahoo sign-up
And here's her contact page: Ecce Homo Press Contact info

I ran BK for 2 years...here is what we did last year for the month of Sept for Jesus, The Son of God.
After going over rules of the club (hands raised to speak, feet/hands to self..that sort of thing) we talked about how He is the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity. We talked about where we can find Him - heaven, Mass, in the Gospels, in your heart, in your soul, most especially the Eucharist, etc.
This led to a discussion about Adoration. What is it, what we do there, and so on. I had a beautiful picture of a magazine cover from the Home of the Mother Order's children mag which was hand drawn and had a small child hugging the tabernacle with Jesus's face shining down on the child.
So we did some roleplaying...pretended we were at Adoration.
For a craft we made monstrances. We used paper towel rolls stuck inside an upturned paper bowl. We had a "host" punched from white paper and laminated and cut it out wide...so that there was a plain border of maybe 2 inches around it (so it would look like it was in glass). Then there was a large doilie (sp?) edge around that. The bowl, paper towel tube and doilie were all spray painted gold. Most of that was premade the kids added jewels to the doilie edge.
We played Carrying the Cross (I think this is what the BK book recommended). We had some extra wood pieces. My dh made 3 different size crosses, really small, about the same size as a 5yold and then one that was really large. The kids did a relay type race carrying the different crosses. We talked about how Jesus's cross was the heaviest of all and sometimes we carry different crosses at different times in our lives.
Lastly, I had bought plain (from Oriental Trading I think) small book bags. I used fabric markers to write each child's name on one. Then at club I had each boy decorate theirs. They mostly put on crosses and swords.
The BK book recommends decorating a club banner. I made the banner...but we never got to decorating it.
The saint of the month is St. John the Evangelist. The kids loved knowing that he lived longer than any other apostle.
Also...I have the Year with God. I made all of those card games that are suggested. I laminated them so I let the club use them. It was a great way to end club each time. The kids played the games for about 5-10 minutes. Then I would quiz them...each child was to answer one question (usually about something we learned that day or a review from past clubs). Once they answered they got a holy card. I also had provided small photo albums (you know those really simple ones at Michael's...they are abotut $1 on sale) for them to keep their holy cards in. So after question time, they would have time to do some holy card trading...which they seemed to really like.
Anyways...that's probably more than you were looking for...but some ideas I suppose.

Michaela, thank you for bumping this up for me!
Maryan, I am a member of that yahoo group and put out a plea there. I don't know where our group coordinator ordered our things. Thank you for your help!!
KackyK--thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You've helped me tremendously. That craft sounds wonderful! And, I just happened to purchase some gold doilies this past weekend! Now, if I can just get some papertowel rolls. Hmmm...Anyway, I'm so happy to know the saint and all your wonderful ideas. Now, I know who to turn to for help! I'll let you know how it goes. Snowbabiesmom on this board will be co-teaching with me.

Glad it was of use! You know you spend all this time planning things, you do it once, then store it away maybe to be touched again, maybe not. So I'd be happy to share any and all info!
Have a good club day!
