With a new baby coming up soon, I've been really thinking and planning my baby carrier and sling options.
I'm leaning towards having more than one. I didn't have much success with a ring sling (OTSBH) last time. I was thinking a tube sling and a Moby D might cover what I want.
One of the main questions I have is how to translate "name brands" of slings and carriers into the generic names, or vice verse.
For example, if I want to try my hand at a Mei Tai carrier, is the pattern going to be called Mei Tai? And what are the other names for a Moby?
Anyone know of a list so I can translate generic and brands? I searched the baby wearing site yesterday, but couldn't seem to find that information. I came away more confused.

Well, I just did. That site uses generic names even more than The Baby Wearer.
So is Moby a wrap? How many different kinds of wraps are there?
Rebozo? What is that? Parei? MeiTai?
Slings, ring or tube? Or more categories?
What category is a Maya?
And I know there are other "brand names" that I'm trying to categorize and can't.

All right, I found the answer to my own question:
Babywearing Products Directory has categories and I can see the "product names" that fit under the categories.

You might look for a NINO group--I'm sure there must be at least one in NOVA. They could help you decide which style to go with and you could try out a whole bunch, probably. I know that's hard to do while pregnant, but if you feel like you can't make a decision, then an OTSBH would probably be fine for the first few weeks until you decide.
Of course, I also just told another mom not to leave the house for at least two weeks postpartum--so I guess if you follow that advice, too, it will take even longer to find a carrier you like!

Mom 4 Life has a really good page on baby wearing and the different styles. Perhaps you could compare between the two sites.
FWIW, I have tried so many styles and the Moby D really is wonderful!
