Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, I just got back from the Dr's office, and it looks like this baby will be on the early side! I'm currently 35.5 weeks. He said, "35 weeks is too early, but any time after 36 weeks is really fine" considering everything else looks healthy, etc. Hopefully not TMI, but I'm currently 3 cm but not thining much. I know I *could* walk around like this for weeks, but with the contractions I've been having I think it won't be in the too distant future.

Those of you who have had babies around 35-36 weeks without other issues in the baby/mom that caused early labor, does that sound right, that it's not too early? I always thought 37 weeks was considered the "not too early" stage.

On that note, anything I can do to keep this baby in another week?    I'm shooting for Sept 9th, because I have a very looked forward to date/concert to go to on the 8th!

My friend had her second son at 36 weeks. He was 6 lbs 12 oz and had no problems at all. He is now a lovely 15 month old!

My sil had her first child at 35 weeks--he was very jaundiced (and needed bilirubin lights) but he is now 16 and wonderful!

I hope this at least comforts you. But I'll pray that your little guy waits until the 9th.

Amy, My Molly was born at 36.4 weeks and had some respitorty issues that required a 5 day NICU stay. We will never know for sure if it was from being a bit early of from the circumstances of her birth. Even the NICU docs said that at her gestational age RD was pretty uncommon. She was small at 6.13, but I guess after having nearly hit 10 pounds with other babies, and now Mark was only 7.3, my babies are getting down to a more 'normal' birth weight! LOL!

If you can, I would try to keep him tucked up tight as long as you can. Rest, LOTS and LOTS of water, epsom salt soaks, and chammomile or catnip tea are all great. (I would also advocate a glass of wine or a beer, but I know that is kinda contraversial.)

My youngest was born at 34 weeks and had no problems at all. She was sleepy a lot, but I didn't mind that. It meant I got more snuggles in.

My son was born 36.5 weeks, also. We knew he was coming, so I had the betamethazone (sp) shots to prepare his lungs just in case. Did the doctor talk about that option?

He never had hypoglycemia or lung issues, never was in the NICU. He was jaundiced and we had a hard time getting him to gain weight (and eat), but some of that was food allergy problems, too.

I also want to add Amy that I was thinking that your overwhelming exhaustion was pointing to an early delivery.

I worried about that myself when I read that Lisa (lisbet) had it too and then gave birth soon after!

Thank you for your reassurance, everyone! My babies have all come progressively earlier, but not this early and are usually on the lighter side (7 days early and 7.6 lbs, 11 days - 6.2 lbs, 14 days - 7.2, and 16 days early at 7 lbs even). So I'm a little worried about having a very small baby, but otherwise have an unusal sense of peace about the whole thing! Usually at this point I'm panicking about labor.

I'm off to drink some tea!

Amy, Nate was born at 36 weeks and was jaundiced, but otherwise fine. Colin was born at 40 weeks, and Lydia at 37 weeks. All were a good size (over 7 lbs)

The only advice I can offer is to rest as much as possible. You're in our prayers :)

Amy, my twins were born at 35 weeks, 3 days and were fine -- no NICU stay. They weighed 5 lb 4 oz and 5 lb 8 oz. My 3rd child was born at 37 weeks 3 days and had a 3 day NICU stay after a C-section. The chances of babies having respiratory difficulties are higher before 38 weeks, but every baby won't have problems -- just statistically more of them. When I was pregnant with the twins, they just wanted me to get past 34 weeks.

Obviously it's still better to make it longer!

Sounds like it will be fine, Amy. I know lots of women who have delivered after 35 and baby went home. On a side note: I was 3 cm. for many weeks once...just so you know! Praying and excited for you.
